If this be magic
Sometimes a posted Call for Works catches your eye because it’s prestigious, or the performance is in an interesting location, or the performers are renowned. And sometimes it’s because it’s unusual.
The For Now Chamber Players is an ensemble comprised of a saxophonist and three toy pianists. They planned to perform a program of existing works and wanted to add a few newly composed works to their program, each no longer than a minute and based upon a famous line from Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale.
Our experimental music collective decided to each write a piece in response to this call, but we added our own twist - the pieces related to one another. We didn’t call attention to this and left it as a sort of easter egg for the group.
Two of the five submissions were selected for performance, and oddly the group played the two out of order (while order was not specified, If this be magic uses a sign that was made as part of Stephen Lilly’s Existentialism).
The five short compositions have been collected as part of a set titled An Autumn Story. The compositions may be performed individually, or in sets.
