Meditation
Written in 2017 while I was suffering from a year-long anxiety attack, Meditation is meant to provide a brief moment of reflection for the performer and audience (and hopefully, composer). Comprised of recordings of the voices of renowned teachers Thich Nhat Hahn and Jack Kornfield mixed live with a singing bowl, the performer activates software that modulates the live sound so that the bowl “sings” in a manner that is meant to evoke the rhythmic patterns of Hahn and Kornfield without necessarily making the specific words spoken audible.
• “Understanding one’s own suffering helps us understand the suffering of another person.” -Thich Nhat Hahn
• “When the child is born, the first song or sound that it hears is those gathered around, singing it’s own unique song.” – Jack Kornfield
